The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Season 2
Yay the 2nd season of one of my favorite Anime Series is now being aired! Also like the first season, the episodes will air in a different order then intended. At first I thought it was kind of weird how they did this, but when you rewatch the series again in the correct order, you pick up A LOT of stuff, and its like a whole different story.
The first episode of season 2, is actually the 8th episode of the 14 episode season. I’m looking forward to watching the series this season, and can’t wait to rewatch it in the correct order… again.
For those of you who haven’t watched the first season yet, go watch it now! Watch it in the order it was aired, then rewatch it in the chronological order. For those of you who watched the first season, but haven’t watched it in chronological order yet, here is the correct order (the order intended by Haruhi).

How can you tell what the order is supposed to be? If you watch the preview at the end of each episode, you can hear Haruhi tell you what the next episode number is supposed to be. For example, after the aired episode 3, Haruhi says something like “next time on episode 5…” So the chronological order is considered to be the order “Haruhi Intended”, and you know you have to follow her orders…

By the way, trying to use your change theme drop down caused Safari 4 Beta on OSX to lock up. Had to use Force Quit. Not your fault I guess, but thought it was worth mentioning.

Thanks for the heads up on Safari 4 Beta. I tested it also on my friend’s Mac and had it crash 1/4 times on Safari 4 Beta also. It worked fine on the other browsers, so hopefully it is just a small incompatibility issue with S4Beta that will be resolved.
im confused about the list that you wrote, what order we should watch it in, was that how it was aired on tv or is that how it is meant to be played?? please help me!?
Yea it is kind of confusing, and even more difficult to explain.
The list I made is how the episodes “should be watched”. The number in the parenthesis is the number it was “aired” at, and if you downloaded, the file names should be numbered in the order they were “aired”.
If that is the case, you should watch episode 2, first, then followed by episode 3, 5, 10, 13, 14, 4, 7, 6, 8, 1, 12, 11, 9.
If you bought the DVDs, it actually plays the series in the correct order with the exception of episode 00 (aired as episode 1). The DVDs treat that episode as a sort of intro episode, and plays it first- which is fine.
If you are watching it for the first time, I recommend you try it in the order it was “aired” first. It gives you a kinda “wtf is going on” feeling, and it makes the 2nd time watching it (in the correct order), a better look.

Second season is in full swing, starting with many of the original 14 episodes in chronological “Haruhi Approved” order… and we are well into the meat of the new episodes… or what I will call… “The Groundhog’s Day of Haruhi Suzumiya”
No offense to the people who thought this would be a great idea to drag out for this many “Endless Eight” episodes… I’m sure there is a reasoning behind it… maybe they want to instill the futility of the situation… maybe they want to capture the essence of repetition… perhaps they have a grand plan for this…
Or perhaps they ran out fo really good ideas and decided we would get the EXACT same story – with very slight variations, over and over to save money on storyboarding, background art, and perhaps even audio takes… (Though I have not verified the actual reuse of any audio – if you’re watching it… you’ll understand.)
I’m not saying that the concept isn’t amusing… it is… however. I think there was a real great possibility for this to be turned into a feature film… and they blew it.
So this is what I want…
After this “Endless Eight” arc is complete… I want someone to go and edit this down into a feature length movie… there is so much repitition here that I know it can easily be chopped in half. Someone should then post it online under the title… “The Groundhod’s Day of Haruhi Suzumiya: Summer Vacation Edition (Not so Endless Eight : Abridged)” I realize it is a long title – but it doesn’t compare to the length of this Arc of pain.

With the right person behind the editing, this arc could be turned into something special… chaotic, but special. I know the fans are getting upset… I know they are getting bored… I know they are starting to throw stuff… and I know that people are just waiting for this arc to end – even if it means the end of the season… I would gladly like to see something other than Baseball Game, Phone Call, Bike Race, Pool Trip, Yukata Shopping (At least they buy different ones) Bon Dance, Fish Scooping, Alien Masks, Fireworks, Cicada Catching, Handing out Baloons in Frog Costumes, Deja Vu, Stargazing, Montage, The Last Supper, Homework, and then the Clock… basically in that order… over and over and over and over and over… This is not an exaggeration. I believe we are up to 5 in a row at last count… In the anime they have gone through like 594 years and 15,521 repeats – and it feels like that in real life too. GET ON WITH IT!

I just watched the latest episode of season 2 hoping they would finally solve this endless loop case- nope. Although I want them to finish this arc already, I am liking the arc. It has been like 5 times watching the same events over again, but I kinda like looking for the subtle changes and whatnot.
I dunno if the studio is trying to save money on story-boarding, background art and audio or anything. I haven’t read any of the Haruhi novels so I’m not sure if this is just part of the series- but dragging this for 5+ episodes is taking it a bit far. Maybe taking this arc out and making it into a movie feature would be a better idea.
Oh wells. Almost exactly the same Haruhi episodes, is better than no Haruhi episodes. Poor Yuki though… someone save her from the time loop!
Season 2 is getting boring as the episodes are nearly all the same and seems like there is no end to the “endless summer vaction”
Maybe the authors are trying to stop people from watching the series, thats why they’re just repeating the same thing over and over agian?
They’re tired of making new eps and decided to just “bored” away fans? Maybe?
I hope the “endless summer vacation” ends soon.. I was very disappointed with all this repetition going on.. feels like they dont have any ideas for the second season..

im kinda confused… i just watched all of season 2 (the endless eight was soooo annoying =__=) annd i dont really get it ;___; the rest of the anime was just them making the mikuru movie..which i they did in season 1.. is there a special way to watch them or something?

Season 2 was a mix of re-airing season 1 plus a few new episodes. When it was aired in Japan, the aired both seasons together in the correct chronological order. The order they were aired was:

Yea I agree, season 2 was a big disappointment. They had everyone all hyped up about the season, but couldn’t deliver. Season 2 was pretty much just 5 episodes because of the endless eight bs, so that didn’t help.
Wait. So what exactly is the second season? I mean i can’t really find it on netflix or ebay..when i tried to see it. Does it go under a different name or something?Also what are the episodes called in season 2. I want to try and finish this confusing series already and move on to The Melancholy of Haruhi-chan. All of the information on wikipedia is the thing thats confusing me the most T.T someone help me please.

The second season aired in Japan under the same name, but you can look it up under the name: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (2009) – as most sites have been using that naming. Here is the AniDB for it.
If you scroll up a few comments, I’ve listed the names of all the episodes for both seasons. Since it has only been aired in Japan so far, you won’t find the series/dvds in the US for awhile. I’m not even sure the DVDs are out yet in Japan.
The Melancholy of Haruhi-chan was a nice change in pace. Only 3 mins long each, and each episode was funny. You can watch it as a stand-alone from the regular series.
