Lucky Star
Lucky Star portrays the lives of several girls attending a Japanese high school with a very loose sense of humor.
The main character is Konata Izumi, an athletic and intelligent girl who, despite these attributes, is not in a sports club and has low grades. Her laziness at school is due to her love for anime and video games and lack of interest in anything else.
The story begins with her first year in high school along with her three friends, Kagami Hiiragi, Tsukasa Hiiragi, and Miyuki Takara, and will eventually progress on to their second and third year.
Konata Izumi- The very representation of an otaku, Konata (or sometimes called ‘Kona-chan’) is the childish but good-natured de facto leader of the Lucky Stargirls. Usually a lazy midget who is ‘occupied’ with video or online games, manga, anime, or all of the above.
Kagami Hiiragi- Kagami is Tsukasa’s older fraternal twin sister and is occasionally referred to as “Kagamin”. In school, her grades are excellent because she studies very hard. She is in a different class than Konata and Tsukasa, but she frequently comes to their class during lunch time to eat with them.
Tsukasa Hiiragi- Tsukasa is the younger fraternal twin sister of Kagami and lives in a six-member family household with her parents. She is in the same class as Konata. While she is not good at studying or sports, she excels in cooking. She is portrayed as the stereotypical friendly, good-natured but clumsy person.
Miyuki Takara- Miyuki is a young lady from a wealthy family who is beautiful, smart, and well-mannered. She always uses extremely polite Japanese, even when talking with her closest friends.
This anime is pretty much a slice of life story with alot of anime references due to the fact that the main character is a giant Otaku. This is pretty much the perfect anime for any anime fan. If you enjoy watching anime, playing video games, playing MMOs, or cosplaying, then Lucky Star has everything covered.
To be honest, I wasn’t too sure about this anime at first. I gave Lucky Star a watch after I saw a video of the opening sequence. It immediately caught my attention cause the song was so catchy and upbeat. The first episode was kind of boring. There was alot of talking about random foods and other things. I was going to give up on this anime, but then Konata’s laziness and her love for video games and anime kicked in. Everything she did and talk about, I could understand or relate to. Then there was the parodies of other anime and even video games.
I highly recommend this anime series, and encourage you to stick through the first episode, I gets really good after that. The anime really picks up at around episode 6 (which is probably my favorite episode), and there are tons of anime and game references made throughout the entire series. I hope you give it a try.
