Farewell to the BigRedKitty

As you may have already heard, everyone’s favorite Hunter has announced that he will be making an exit from WoW and Blogging. And like many bloggers have done already, I feel the need to say good bye to BRK as well. Because also like many bloggers, BRK was the reason that got us to start blogging in the first place. Personally, without BRK, this blog would have never existed.

The Crazy Smart NASA Player

I’ve played WoW pretty much ever since the game was released. I was even in the original open beta. I’ve managed to play all the way into the Burning Crusade without ever having read any blogs- never really knew they existed. It was during the time where my guild was farming Black Temple every week and waiting for the Sunwell patch.

My buddy Carl, who plays on the Drenden server was telling me about about a Hunter in his guild which was tearing up the Damage Meters. Hunters topping meters was unusual from my own experiences, so this caught my attention. He told me that this Hunter was also crazy smart and even works for NASA! “WTF?!”, I thought, “I gotta meet this Hunter!”.

Blogs!?

He told me that this crazy smart damage meter topping Hunter does all sorts of theory crafting and such to optimize this DPS. The he pointed me to his blog, BigRedKitty (which was on wordpress at the time). I pretty much spent all my free time going through BRK’s entire blog. This stuff is awesome! Then I found that my Doomilias had his own Rogue blog too, A View From Behind (sadly it is gone too), and I proceeded to read through that entire blog also.

There was a lot of information on the represented classes, and also some funny real life stuff mixed in. I’ve pretty much made it a habit to visit the sites daily for any new posts.

Aetherial Circle

Shortly after, Carl and Doom told me that they had a Mage they wanted me to play and raid with them. At that point, we was pretty sick of killing Illidan every week and figured it would be cool to do something else for a change. This is where Geldin became an AC Raider, and where I began raiding along side the BigRedKitty and Hobbes.

It took me about an hour to go through my screenshot folder to find any I had with BRK and this was the only one I found. As you can see, raiding with BRK as well as being part of the “Bloggiest Guild in Azeroth” was a lot of fun. Hobbes can be a bit scary though…

Even though I don’t raid regularly with AC anymore (raiding 5 days a week total was crazy), I occasionally stop by when they are short on DPS. Though not on Geldin anymore, my guest appearances are usually on OJerk or Darthtuna.

Then one day I told my friend, “I would be cool if BRK was a Mage and did Mage stuff!”. His reply, “Why don’t you just start one?”. Yea… why not? I followed the footsteps of BRK and Doom and started a blog on WordPress.com.

Spicytuna

I told BRK that I was going to follow in his footsteps and start a Mage blog, and he told me to let him know when I was ready. With just one post from BRK, my blog was started. His intro post gave me an audience to write for, and I’ve been blogging ever since.

If I have never heard of or met BRK, none of this would be possible. Instead of reading my stuff here, you would have maybe read one of my replies on the WoW>Mage Forums by chance. And you know how fun it is to read and find information on there.

BRK’s intro post for Spicytuna was on February 1st, 2008 -That was over a year ago! BRK, I owe it all to you! Thanks for being such an inspiration to us all for all this time. Farewell, and I wish you the best!

P.S. – If this is an April Fool’s Joke, I will find you and drop kick you! Also, since you’re in the City of Brotherly Love (where I currently reside), maybe we can meet up for a drink?
