How to Make the Lunar Festival More Exciting
Let’s be honest. The Lunar Festival World Event is pretty boring, and offers no fun rewards or prizes. The only reasons why anyone would go through all the tedious achievements is to get the Elder Title, which also works towards the “What A Long, Strange Trip It’s Been” Achievement (A / H), which rewards a 310% Flying Mount.
Let’s see what we have so far. Run around Azeroth and Northrend to Honor all the Elders. That was a pain in the butt and was very boring. Summon and kill Omen. He was way easy, and offers no loot. Shoot off fireworks within a time limit. Yay Fun!? Nope.
So what can make this dull World Event more interesting? DRAGONS. This is the World Event for the Lunar New Year right? Where the heck are all the Dragon Dances? Guess I have to do everything myself.
So way back before the first expansion, the final dungeon of Vanilla WoW was the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj, but before that instance was open, there was a server-wide event in which Horde and Alliance had to work together to open the Gates of Ahn’Qiraj. It involved the entire server working together, and gather tons different materials to prepare for war. Another requirement was to have someone go through a super long quest line which would pretty much require the help of all the top guilds of the server (at that time).
I was still in the middle of the quest line when the Gates of Ahn’Qiraj opened, but I still kept the quests in my log to go back to them at a later time. One of the quest in this long chain was “The Nightmare Manifests“, in which you have to defend Nighthaven from Eranikus, Tyrant of the Dream.
Nighthaven happens to be in Moonglade, and Moonglade happens to be where the Lunar Festival takes place. And I happen to have this quest… *evil grin*
When I start the quest, Keeper Remulos makes his way over to Nighthaven, and summons the dragon. Eranikus appears from the lake near the town, and makes his way into the town, but you can’t attack him yet.
First Eranikus summons a whole bunch of Nightmare Phantasms which goes around town doing Shadow Bolt Volleys at everyone at Nighthaven. Luckily for me, there were some lowbie Horde Druids here, and a few people trying to turn in their [Coin of Ancestry].
The Phantasms are all level 62 elites with close to 60k health. Not only do each of the Phantasms do the volleys, they also do an aoe Fear to anyone that comes close to them.
When left alone, these Phantasms can overwhelm the guards in town, and take over Nighthaven. Even if you are level 80, these guys can still do some damage, especially on us clothies.
Here is what is left of Nighthaven. Not even I was able to escape from harm. Well here is my version of the Lunar New Year “Dragon Dance“, and it was a lot more fun than the regular Lunar Festival activities.
Kudos for thinking that up
Hm, wonder if I can pull that off too tonight…

That is a simply sterling effort.
(Also, um. “the final dungeon of Vanilla WoW was the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj” — what about Naxx? )
Sihas last blog post..
lol… Now that would be a nice reward from one of these stupid achievements.
The wand of dragon summoning…
Summons a dragon to your location to lay waste to all that it can see…

@ Siha
LoL I dunno why I forgot all about old Naxx. Probably cause I think of Naxx as an WotLK instance now, but you’re right.
