Too Many Factions
There are mana different Factions throughout Azeroth and Outlands, which you could rep up with to obtain special gear, recipes, potions, tabards, enchants, and even mounts. The best items are usually obtainable when you reach Exalted with the faction, but to do that, it could be very time consuming, and very boring.
“Reputation is very similar to experience. Reputation is divided into a number of different levels for which players must earn reputation points to progress through. Higher reputation levels generally require more points than the previous level to progress. The exception is hated, which spans a very large number of reputation points. Reputation points, just like experience points, are gained through quests and killing various mobs.” – wowwiki.com
I find myself repping up with any faction that I can whenever I have nothing else to do, or when I need a change in scenery. You can only run so many BG’s until you become sick of it, even if you are X amount of honor away from getting your next bracer.
At first it was, “Ooh X faction has a nice enchant available at exalted, must rep!”. Then it was, “I need to collect all of the Alliance mounts!”. Now I have become obsessed and will just rep up with any faction just to be exalted. I didn’t even care if there was nothing I would gain from it.
Next on my list… Wintersaber Trainers!
I know I am not the only one. I’ve seen people spend hundreds of gold to rep up with Sporegarr just for the pet you can buy. Or when back to EPL just to rep up with Argent Dawn again just for sh!ts and giggles. I haven’t done this yet, but I kind of want to. I know some people who have repped up with Bloodsail Buccaneers (declaring war on the Steamwheedle Cartle in the process) just so they could get a pirate hat that can summon a parrot!
I don’t think I will be doing that anytime soon (I like being able to enter the goblin cities without getting attacked), but I am repping up with a faction which also requires a ton of time. The Wintersaber Trainers. Why? To get my very own Hobbes mount! Now this rep grind has been boring me to tears, and I can only do at MOST, the repeatable quest about twice before I start smashing my head on the keyboard.
Also doing these repeatable quest, I get drops from the Furbolgs I kill that can be used for the Timbermaw Hold faction. So I am killing two birds with one stone. Soon (hopefully) you will see me riding around on my Wintersaber mount, and summoning Furbolgs to fight for me.
Exalted with too many factions…
Just another thing in WoW for me to waste more time on. I’m sure in WotLK there will be many more factions to rep with, and I am sure I will be trying to get Exalted with all of them too! Good thing I picked the race with the best PvE racial (imo), the Human race. Diplomacy FTW!
