The beginning of all my Arena Sessions usually start with, “Let’s do our 10 games for the week!” That leads to, “Let’s keep Arena’ing til 7pm!” On good days it leads to, “Let’s get XXXX rating so we can get our next piece of gear! We’re so close!” Sometimes it ends up with, “OMG let’s get our rating back and quit!”

This week we’ve busy and couldn’t get any games in til Monday night- the night before ratings are calculated and points are given out. Apparently this is usually the time where some of the good players queue up to collect rating off scrubs (like us), and we ended up only getting 15 games in before I ran out of time and had to leave.

We started off the night with just trying to get our 10 games in for the week so we can get Arena points for the week. We had a pretty bad losing streak so we ended up playing more games so we can get our Rating back up to at least where it was. Well we gave ourselves til 7pm before we would stop, but we ran into a team that just wouldn’t let us stop at 7pm.

Over 1 Million Damage AND Outhealed the other Paladin!

My Rogue partner got wtfpwn’d by the two Paladins early in the game. Then they went after me. Thing is, they got over confident and the Holy Paladin decided that he didn’t need to heal anymore. I guess the Retribution Paladin didn’t think he would need to bubble either, and I got a few good crits and and killed him. Now it is just me and the Holy Paladin left.

It was a chess match with us trying to out-mana each other. A long, long, loooooooooooooong chess match. As the match went on, I got less and less help from my partner over vent too!

1 Minute In:

“He’s at 50% Mana, you’re running low, Sheep him and use Evocation!”

2 Minutes In:

“You’re running low on Mana again, try to get out of combat and drink up.”
“OMG he has water too! Go interrupt his drinking!”

5 Minutes In:

“He’s trying to rez!”

10 Minutes In:

“… be right back, I’m going to go get a drink…”

15 Minutes In:

“WTF the match isn’t over yet?! We better get like 100 Rating for this Match!”

20 Minutes In:

“Holy shit, you’re still fighting?!”
Me: “Yea I think he bubbled like three times…”
“Okay I’m gonna go do something, yell in vent when its over.”

35 Minutes In:

“… okay you should just text me or something when this is over or something.”

Man I really really really hate going 1 on 1 against healers. It is such a different fight. You stop looking at Health bar and all you look at is the Mana bar. I have save all my cooldowns and keep an eye on all my timers.

There was a few mistakes the Paladin made which led to me finally winning the match:

He blew a bubble thinking it would keep me from interrupting him from resurrecting his partner.

He buffed himself with Greater Blessing of Wisdom. Thanks!

He didn’t bring more water than me, and ran out. Mage FTW!

He chased me out in the open (not near middle grave or entrance) and couldn’t LOS Squirtle and my final bursts of damage at the end.

Good match Mr. Nomixus of team ROADHOUSE! Hopefully we won’t cross paths again, I don’t think I can handle another epic battle. This was longer than when I solo’d old Onyxia.

We ended with a 7-8 record for the 3rd week of Arena, with a 1343 Rating. I think we ended up losing 5 Rating from what we previously had last week.Related Posts:

The first week of Arena with my new Rogue partner was very fun. It felt really good to participate in Arena matches again. All these feelings I’ve had the last time I arena’d are coming back to me- and I’ve missed them all.

The rush of ending a match only a few seconds into the match; the thrill of beating a composition you were having trouble with all night; pulling off a victory as the last man standing after your partner has died. Being angry at yourself for doing something stupid; forgetting to buff yourself and hoping your partner didn’t catch it; cheering on your partner to win the match after you died already.

Even the “pins and needles” sensation I get in my hands and arms after a close match. It feels great to do Arena again.

I’ve been away from competitive PvP for quite sometime, and I’ve pretty much had to learn to fight each class again. Learn to save my cooldowns for the correct time, and learned to save my Counterspells for just the right moment.

I had to learn what buffs some classes got, and what each spell animation looks like for whenever they pop a certain defensive ability. I’ve learned about the Hunter’s Deterrence ability the hard way. “WTF did he just deflect my Frostbolts!?!”

Our first week went fairly well. We were still learning how to play along with each other- learn each other’s play style. Also, I didn’t have a working mic, and my partner had to put up with playing with a mute Mage.

About 90% of our losses were against teams with a Hunter in it. For some reason, we just couldn’t win. They seem to cheat death like five times per match. Something for us to work on for the upcoming weeks.

We ended up with and .500 record and we stopped with a 657-ish rating for the week. Not bad for a new team with no communication.

Dear Blizzard,

Buff Mages.
Nerf Hunters.
Warriors are fine.

So what did I do with all that Honor I farmed during the first two weeks of Season 8? New Wrathful gear! There are a couple of pieces you can pick up with just Honor that doesn’t have a Arena Rating Requirement on them. I made sure to pick them all up!

Patch 3.2 gave us a new change to how Resilience works, and an addition hotfix gave us more damage reduction from Resilience, making this stat even more essential to PvP. You won’t see players with a lot of PvE gear in Arenas as much now.

Reduces Chance to be Critically Hit

At level 80, every 94.27 Resilience rating will net you a 1% chance reduction. For example, I have 1125 Resilience, so that will give me a 11.933% chance reduction of being critically hit.

Total Resilience / 94.27 = % Critical Hit Chance Reduction

There is currently no cap to reducing your chances of getting critically hit- so essentially you can be “uncritable” if you stack enough Resilience.

Mana Drains and Critical Strike Damage Reduction

Not only does Resilience reduces the chance of you getting hit by a critical strike, if you do get it, it will reduce the damage of the critical strike! Mana drain reduction too! Resilience is a nice stat.

[Total Resilience / 94.27] x 2.2 = % Critical Strike Damage Reduction

So I take the 11.933% Critical Hit Chance Reduction I have from my 1125 Resilience, and multiply it by 2.2 to get the % of Mana Drains and Critical Strike Damage Reduction I will have: 26.246%.

Additional Damage Reduction From All Damage Sources

On top of all that, Resilience now gives you a straight up damage reduction- and by double the amount of your % Critical Hit Chance Reduction too!

[Total Resilience / 94.27] x 2.0 = % Damage Reduction

So again I take the 11.933% Critical Hit Chance Reduction I have, then multiply it by 2.0 to get how much Damage Reduction I will have: 23.867%.

TLDR: Get Resilience, it’s a good PvP stat.Related Posts:

When Patch 3.3.2 was released, it marked the beginning of Season 8 of Arena- which will also be the last season of the Wrath of the Lich King Expansion. It also gave me a new reason to start PvPing again, and more reason to kill Horde.

107k Honor in one day!

Since I am now on a new server, I will have to find myself a new Arena partner too! A guildie was looking for a Mage to do Arena with his Rogue- sounds like a pretty good 2v2 composition!

This also means I will be doing Battlegrounds regularly now for the PvP Daily, as well as collecting marks to turn in for more Honor. I’m just glad that I have enough Eye of Storm marks saved up that I won’t have to enter that BG unless it is the Daily. AB and WSG still remains as my favorite two BGs to play.

Dropping down that Pony Keg was a BAD idea!

I gotta go now! Have… to… farm… more… honor…

I’m going to put together some sort of Season 8 starter guide sometime in the near future so look forward to that. Look forward to more Arena Pictures too! I know a few of you have been bugging me to show off my MS Paint skillz.Related Posts:

I’ve been collecting mounts for awhile now, trying to get 100 for the [Blue Dragonhawk Mount] you get from the Mountain o’ Mounts Achievement. The one thing keeping me from this achievement was gold- I was always terribad with my gold.

Whenever I had a good amount of gold, I would blow it all on non-combat pets, or 22 Slot Bags. I don’t have any alts really, and I don’t have a gathering profession. My only income really was just from raiding, heroics, and transmuting epic gems everyday. This was enough to get me by, but not enough to let me start buying mounts yet.

Now thanks to the new Dungeon Finder system, Gold- as well as enchanting mats, and emblems, were rolling in at a steady pace. I now had extra money to spend!

Halaa mounts- check! Netherwing mounts- check! Faction ground mounts- check! Old flying mounts- check! Skyguard mounts- check! So pretty much all the 10g – 200g mounts that I can purchase, I got. Now to start saving up for the more higher cost mounts.

The mounts that I have in my possession are listed HERE, from WarcraftMounts.com, and I’ve narrowed the remaining 15 that I need, to 21 possible mounts:

Easily Obtainable

[Reins of the Black War Tiger]

[Reins of the Dark War Talbuk]

[Great Red Elekk]

[Swift Gray Steed]

[Swift Moonsaber]

[Swift Violet Ram]

[Turbostrider]

These mounts will take a little bit more of farming, or will cost me around 500g to obtain. War Tiger is the last PvP mount I need left, and all I need is AB tokens to farm. The Dark War Talbuk, I just need to farm a bit more [Halaa Research Token].

Needs More Crusader Dailies

This means I will need to stop being so lazy and start doing these dailies again. Plus the gold will come in handy for the previous list. I just wished they stop giving me the quests which makes me have to fly all the way to Storm Peaks, and just keep giving me the Shark quest instead.

I had to take a trip back home last weekend for my mother’s and my sister’s birthday, so it was going to be an hour and a half train ride home. I packed a few clothes and downloaded the newest episode of the Twisted Nether Blogcast.

Bought my ticket, got on the train, found a seat, got comfortable, then started listening the the latest episode. Another great show!

The guest for the episode was Kim from World of Warcraft Wanderings. Her main is a Paladin, but she has a Frost Mage alt, so she is forgiven.

“Apparently there are no Mages in the Chatroom”

Although it was a great episode, there was a point where the topic of Mages came up, and Fimlys was trying to find out the buff which gives Mages an instant Pyroblast”.

“Hot Streak! It’s Hot Streak!!!!”, I was thinking to myself. “No not PoM Pyro!!! Arghh!”. Good thing I didn’t yell this out loud… I think that would of freaked out a lot of people on the train.

Now I have to make sure I make it to the next live recording to answer any Mage questions from the chatroom.

“Gnomer + Google Voice = Hilarious!”

Just when I thought the show was over, Fim plays a voicemail from everyone’s favorite Gnome. Apparently he didn’t have enough of the Twisted Nether from the episode before, and had to make an appearance again this episode. And again, he reminds me again why I shouldn’t taking anymore breaks. Thanks again Gnomer! I am now out of the woodwork.

Then Fim reads the translation which Google Voice came up with, and I just started busting out laughing. I’m pretty sure I got a lot of strange stares from the other passengers on the train, but it really was hilarious.

If you haven’t listened to it yet, go do it NOW! FIVE!

With the new revamped Looking for Group tool that came out with Patch 3.3, Blizzard has made it exponentially easier to find other players to run dungeons with- mainly because you can now group up with players across different servers. Blizzard is even rewarding players with 2 x [Emblem of Frost] by running a random Heroic once a day.

The Quieter the Group, the Better

Group forms, players zone in, table is dropped, buffs are given out, first groups of mobs are pulled- and no one has said a single word yet. This is a sign of a quick and painless run. No need to ask for buffs, no need to ask for marks, no need to explain the boss fight- everyone knows what they’re doing.

If the group forms, and players are having to ask for buffs, or needs the MT tank mark what they want killed first- you are in for a long run. There will be deaths, be prepared to use Invisibility.

How to Greed for Disenchant

If there is an Enchanter in the group, you will have the option to “Greed for Disenchant” any Greens, Blues, or Epic BoP items that may drop. Half the time, there are players who still don’t know how to.

It is the new icon to the right of the “Greed” button. If there is an Enchanter, you will be able to used that button. If there isn’t an Enchanter, that option will be grayed out.

“R” Means Ready

Maybe this is just different on some servers, but I’ve noticed a lot of players doing this. Before a big pull, sometimes I see the MT would type “r”, and won’t pull until everyone in the group types “r”.

Still a little weird to me, but whatever, I’ll go along with it. But seriously, why not do a ready check?

Where is the Entrance to the New Dungeons?

Yes, using the new Dungeon Finder tool will teleport the player directly inside each dungeon, but if there is a wipe, you still have to ghost run back. For players who are new to the new Patch 3.3 Dungeons, you will sometimes have to wait for players to find their way to the entrance.

This is for Forge of Souls, Pit of Saron, and Halls of Reflection. I had to stay out a couple of times already to help players find their way back to the instance. There is always one or two person a day who still don’t know their way in yet.

Instant Queues with a Tank or Healer

If you are partied up with a Tank or Healer before queuing for a Random dungeon, it’ll take less than 5 seconds. If you are a DPS by yourself, or with another DPS, queues can take up to around 15 minutes.

If you don’t like waiting, find yourself a Healer or Tank friend, then queue away!

Smack Talking in Guild Chat

Be prepared for GChat to be filled by players who will post Damage Meters from their latest Random Dungeon runs, or links of bad gear with wrong Enchants and/or Gems. Sure, sometimes it is fun to talk about how bad some player’s gear, or spec is- but you have to remember, not everyone who plays is as informed or plays as much as you are.

Instead of taking your time to make fun of someone’s choice of stats or talents in GChat, you could maybe help that player out, and offer some advice on spec or gem choices. Is your DPS twice as much as the other Mage you’re grouped up with? Offer some spell rotation advice.

Helping a player now, can prevent many failed groups in the future.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Overall I’ve had a great experience using the Dungeon Finder tool. Playing with new players can be fun sometimes, and the extra Gold and Emblems from the Random tool is always a plus.
As I’ve said before, I had been occupied recently, and my time on Azeroth had diminished to practically nothing. I haven’t raided or pvp’d for over a month, and had only signed on to do a couple achievements for the new Pilgrim’s Bounty holiday.
As an achievement-aholic, I would have normally jumped on this holiday to complete all the achievements for the holiday- but when I logged on the 2nd day (nov 23rd) to finished the rest of the achievements… my account expired. Damn you Blizz! I bet you planned this, didn’t you!?
Looks like it was time for me to hang up my robe and wizard hat…
I went home for Thanksgiving Weekend, gain like 10 pounds, helped my little sister prepare for her upcoming Driver’s License testing, watched Ninja Assassin, laughed at how bad it was, had sushi, played lots of Borderlands and Dragon Age: Origin, watched the Eagles (barely) win against the Redskins, took the train back home to Philly.
Not once did the World of Warcraft pop up in my head. Did I finally free my mind from the Lich King’s control for good?
Meanwhile, at Blizzard Headquarters…
Henchman #1: Boss! One of our VIP accounts in the Philadelphia Area expired… and was not renewed!
Big Boss: *sigh* Is it Stallone again? He’s probably just mad we had another Mr. T commercial instead of a Rocky one… Leave him be, we don’t need him anymore.
Henchman #2: No… it was Tuna.
Big Boss: WHAT!? That was a 5 year old account!? How can this be?
Henchman #1: Maybe it’s because of the lack of new conten-
Big Boss: SILENCE! You, leak out some false release date to hook him back!
Henchman #2: Y-ye-yes sir! I’ll release the “2nd part” of the Patch 3.3 downloader.
Henchman #1: There’s a 2nd part to that download?
Henchman #2: Nope… but THEY won’t know that! They’ll just be downloading the same file again!
Big Boss: *evil laugh* Excellent! We shall see how long he’ll last now…
Even though I wasn’t following WoW, WoW was finding me.
The Mr. T commercial has been airing a lot. I went through my emails and finally (sorry for taking so long!) answered a bunch of your questions. One of the questions even got answered in a post! I haven’t done one of those in awhile…
There was even WoW on my Xbox!!! I was playing 1 vs 100 for the first time on Tuesday, cause I saw that there was a live show going on. This game is freaking addicting by the way. I was doing pretty good, getting all the pop culture questions right, all the history questions wrong- having fun. For one of the rounds, “the one” made his way up the ladder, knocking out the mob members.
Then this question pops up: “What guild was the World of Warcraft player, Leeroy Jenkins a part of?” I forget the other two answers, but the correct one was “PALS FOR LIFE”, which I got correctly, but “the one” got wrong and was eliminated. I tried to get a picture of the question but I was too slow with the camera on my phone.
Then the phone calls from a buddy.
Buddy: Hey, what was the hit cap for Arcane again?
Me: Ehh… its like 290 by yourself and like 185 in a raid.
Buddy: Cool thanks!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Buddy: Hey, did you see the new legendary weapon?
Me: Ehh… not yet. *goes to mmo-champion* Whoa! It looks cool!
Buddy: Yea and the animation is awesome too!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Buddy: Hey, the 2nd part of the patch is downloading! I think it’s coming out next week!
Me: Ehh… my account expired, I haven’t renewed it.
Buddy: Why not?
Me: Meh… haven’t had a reason to sign on anymore.
Buddy: Transfer your Mage over here and play with us again!
Me: … I dunno.
Buddy: Look, Blizz just sent me an email and gave me free days!
Me: … Wtf? Really?
Buddy: Yea, go look!
Me: Wtf they did… I’ll just log on for a bit…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Meanwhile, at Blizzard Headquarters…

Henchman #1: Hah! I told you the downloader trick wouldn’t work without the free days!
Henchman #2: Whatever, it would have worked without your help!
Big Boss: He won’t last long now… He’ll come back. They always come back.

Big Boss: Tuna, I’ll see you in Ice Crown Citadel!!!

Buddy: Sooooo… when you gonna transfer your Mage?
Me: I don’t know yet…
Buddy: Just do it, you’re not doing anything on the other server anymore anyways.
Me: Hmm… is everyone still playing there?
Buddy: Most of us.
Me: Okay… I’ll throw up a guild app first to see if they still remember me.

1 hour, $25 transfer fee, $15 subscription fee later…

I am now officially part of the bloggiest guild on Azeroth… again. Frostytuna is my new name, Drenden is my new home, Aetherial Circle is my new family.

Not only that, it seems as though the Lich King has servants all over. Everyone’s favorite Gnome Mage blogger, was recently interviewed on the latest Twisted Nether Blogcast.

He just had drop my name and make me look bad! *shakes fist* Now I have to be less lazy and more active on the site now- well it worked, I’m posting this after listening to the podcast.

If you haven’t listened to it yet, go do it now! You’re missing out! It was a great show!

The Lich King has taken hold of my soul again. Am I destined to be a servant of the Lich King forever? It sure does look that way.

“Does the change to the way Finger of Frost is consumed in the next Patch 3.3, does that mean no more ghost charges and shatter combos for us Frost Mages?”

The quick answer to that is: Nope, you will still have your “ghost charges” and “shatter combos”. Don’t worry. The way Blizzard worded the change to Fingers of Frost can be misinterpreted easily, and can cause some confusion.

Here is the new change:

“Fingers of Frost: This talent now triggers immediately on casting a spell rather than being delayed until the spell strikes the target.”

The way the FoF Charges will be consumed, will be exactly the same- on cast. So you will still have your chance to do your “shatter combos” and attempts on using the “ghost charges”.

What this means is, you will get the Fingers of Frost buff as soon as Frostbolt is cast, rather than waiting until the Frostbolt hits the target. This change is actually a buff for Frost Mages.

Currently, if you are just spamming Frostbolts, this is the Fingers of Frost scenario for a Frost Mage:

Casting Frostbolt #1
Precast Frostbolt #2
Release Frostbolt #1 / Casting Frostbolt #2
Precast Frostbolt #3
Frostbolt #1 Lands / Fingers of Frost Procs
Release Frostbolt #2 / Casting Frostbolt #3 / FoF Charge Used

By this time, you’ll realize that FoF had proc’d and you already used a charge, and would be already in the middle of casting the next Frostbolt that would use up the next FoF charge. At this point, you’ll have a split second to cancel the third Frostbolt to use Deep Freeze- or keep going and attempt to use the “ghost charge”.

With the new change to Fingers of Frost, the new scenario for a Frost Mage would be like this:

Casting Frostbolt #1
Precast Frostbolt #2
Release Frostbolt #1 / FoF Procs / Casting Frostbolt #2
Precast Frostbolt #3
Frostbolt #1 Lands
Release Frostbolt #2 / Casting Frostbolt #3 / FoF Charge Used

The big difference with the new Fingers of Frost mechanic is, you will see the buff much earlier, and will have more time to plan/react to better use the 2nd FoF Charge. Instead of realizing you have the buff while casting your 3rd Frostbolt, you’ll know while casting your 2nd Frostbolt.

Sorry it took so long to answer. I’ve been… busy. Heh heh…

Hope everyone had a nice, safe, and happy Thanksgiving!

One of the biggest change for all Frost Mages from the upcoming Patch 3.3, is the addition of a Glyph which will make our Water Elemental become a permanent pet. That is the Glyph of Eternal Water.

Art by: John Avon

I’ve been very interested in this Glyph ever since it was announced, but never got a chance to play with it on the Public Test Realms. The Glyph wasn’t available yet, or wasn’t working correctly- until now.

I’ve already talked about my initial impressions of a Permanent Water Elemental HERE. Now I will talk about my hands-on play testing of the Glyph on the PTR.

PTR Bugs

Currently, as of 10/30/09 on the PTR, if you are using the Glyph of Eternal Water, and have any points into Enduring Winter, will actually cause your Water Elemental to prematurely dismiss.

If you have 1 point into the talent, your pet will be dismissed in 3 seconds, 2 points – 6 seconds, and 3 points – he will last for 9 seconds. So if you want to test out the Glyph on the PTR, remember to not to put any points into Enduring Winter.

Naming your Water Elemental

Sadly you cannot do this yet. It will still remain as Water Elemental [Utada's Pet] for the time being. Maybe they should add “Mages” to the list of classes to be able to use the [Certificate of Ownership].

Here are a few names that just popped in my head:

Squirtle

Blastoise

Articuno… okay any Water/Ice-Type Pokemon

Supah Soakah

Squirts

Glacius

Frosty

Puddles

Mr. Freeze… oh wait, he can’t do that

Spongebob

Water Elemental Behaviors

Currently, the Water Elemental doesn’t behave like a normal permanent pet yet. Right now, it acts the same as what we are used to now when we summon him- except Freeze is no longer on the pet action bar. And of course he doesn’t despawn after a certain amount of time anymore.

When you mount up, he doesn’t get dismissed like other pets, and will just follow you around. This includes flying mounts, except he can’t fly, he just follows you from below. During this time, he can get aggro from mobs he runs across, and will not attack back. Also, if you fly too high and far from him, he’ll just despawn. You will have to re-summon him after you dismount.

If you have your pet out, and you enter an instance, your pet will be gone- you will have to re-summon him. If you teleport with your pet out, he is gone when your screen loads. If you have your pet out when you get summoned, he is gone after you accept and are at your new location.

Hope this is changed to make it behave more like Warlock and Hunter pets. It was a pain to buff, and ask for rebuffs whenever my Water Elemental would disappear.

Water Elemental’s Stats

Currently, our Water Elemental gains a percentage of some of our stats. Blizzard is working to have more of our stats scale with our pets [src]. For now, we just know about Spell Power, Stamina, and Intellect [src].

Intellect: 369 + 30% of Master’s Intellect

Stamina: 118 + 30% of Master’s Stamina

Spell Power: 33.33% of Master’s Spell Power

Spell Hit: 100% of Master’s Hit Rating

Resilience: 40% of Master’s Resilience (?)

Critical Strike: ?

Spell Haste: ?

Spell Penetration: ?

Spirit: ?

Water Elemental’s Damage

Currently, your Water Elemental can account for about 10% of your total damage in raids, that is with smart usage of Cold Snap, and good cooldown management. Now that your Water Elemental will have a 100% uptime, we can see that damage percentage go higher.

DPS-wise, on the PTR, I tested the Water Elemental out on Dr. Boom in Netherstorm (so I can also test Deep Freeze). Our Water Elemental can put up around 540 DPS with just an Arcane Intellect and Focus Magic buff.

We can see this DPS go up higher with raid buffs that will increase his Spell Power, Haste, Crit, and Damage. Also you can throw in a Bloodlust / Heroism for good measure. You can count on your Water Elemental to do some decent damage… but for how long?!

Water Elemental’s Mana

Sure your Water Elemental is permanent now, but not his Mana pool. Will his Mana be able to last a few trash pulls? Will it last a boss fight? Have no fear, your Water Elemental won’t be going OOM on you.

In my current PvE gear, my Water Elemental had a Mana pool of 4894 with Arcane Intellect. In a raid, it will be even higher with Mark of the Wild and Blessing of Kings. Not too shabby.

Waterbolt is your Water Elemental’s only Spell he can cast if you have the Glyph equipped. How much does it cost to cast a Waterbolt?

Water Elemental: Waterbolt mana cost reduced by 80%.

Thanks to this upcoming change, each Waterbolt will only cause our Water Elemental 35 Mana per cast. Is that enough to last a fight? Let us do some calculations. Each cast takes 2.5 seconds and 35 Mana each. So in 5 seconds, your Water Elemental will use 70 Mana.

Now let us look at Blessing of Wisdom and Mana Spring Totem. They will give you at least 91 Mana every 5 seconds. That is more than enough to ensure your pet’s Mana pool never drops.

No Pally or Druid? Well if you have any form of Replenishment, your Water Elemental will get 1% of his Mana back every 5 seconds. That’ll keep his Mana pool alive for a long long time.

Your Water Elemental can stay out forever, and cast forever- but can he stay alive forever?

Water Elemental’s Survival

Will you have to worry about your Water Elemental dying during boss fights? Not really. Especially not from random AoE damage. In Patch 3.3, all pets will receive and Avoidance buff.

Avoidance (passive): Now reduces the damage your pets take from area-of-effect damage by 90%, but no longer applies to area-of-effect damage caused by other players.

This doesn’t mean you don’t have to move your pet out of the fire now. It just means that your pet can be healed through the damage now, but be nice to your healers, make it a good habit to move your pet.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There are a few mixed feelings about this Glyph. Sure it helps Frost PvE to become more viable, but essentially just gives Frost Mages a DOT- the Waterbolt damage every 2.5 seconds.
For me, I’m just excited to see that Blizzard is trying to make Frost a viable spec. I enjoyed raiding as Frost before, and this change will just make it one less cooldown for me to watch for. This plus the Deep Freeze change has me itching for the next patch. If these changes can bring Frost DPS within 4-5% of Arcane and Fire DPS, I’m totally switching. I’ll make up the 4-5% with my Ninja Focus.
If this change goes live, then I will be updating my old old Water Elemental Guide. There is so much outdated information on there.
That is all I have for our Frosty Pet for now. For those of you who are also testing this Glyph out on PTR and have something to add, feel free to leave a comment.
