The long awaited, highly anticipated Soundtrack for Soul Eater has been released. Probably twenty-five percent of my emails and one of the top three search terms for my site is about the Soul Eater OST (mostly Black Star’s track), and it is now finally here.

Episode 16 continues where the last episode left off, Death the Kid vs Chrona and Ragnarok!

Summary:

After Chrona and Ragnarok shows up on the ship and absorbs all the souls on the ship, Ragnarok becomes stronger and sprouts wings. Kid engages in battle with Chrona, and manages to land successful attack on Chrona. Chrona who was being pushed back by Kid, destroys the ship and tries to escape from Kid by flying away.

Kid summons his flying skateboard, and flies after Chrona. He manages to catch up to Chrona and continues firing at them. That is until the Sun shows up! Upon seeing the Sun, Kid sees how symmetrical the sky is, and is stopped in his tracks. As a result of this, Chrona and Ragnarok manages to escape without any further trouble.

Meanwhile, Maka is in the nurse’s office with Medusa. Maka was troubled by the black blood she saw after the battle with Free, and came for advice. Medusa gives Maka some pills, and Maka leaves. Moments later, Dr. Stein shows up, and questions Medusa about the pills she gave Maka, and confronts her about being a witch.

Medusa, who looked like she was about to attack, starts acting like it was a bad joke. Dr. Stein laughs it off and leaves the room. Dr. Stein later meets up with Sid and his weapon Knives. Dr. Stein said that his suspicions about Medusa has been confirmed, and Sid said that he has found Medusa’s hidout.

Sid and Knives leave to infiltrate Medusa’s hideout. What they didn’t know was that Medusa has contacted Eruka ahead of time to have something prepared.

Sid manages to break in with ease, and finds Medusa’s journal. He reads something shocking in the journal, and states that he must warn Shinigami-sama at once. At that moment, he was ambushed from behind by Eruka’s bombs. The bombs detonate, and destroys the entire building.

Meanwhile, Kid confronts Shinigami-sama about what he had heard during his investigation of the Black Dragon. He asks Shinigami-sama about the “Kinshin closest to them” and if it is tied with the reason why Shinigami-sama is unable to leave Shibusen.

The next episode takes a break from the action, and is another Excalibur episode. Looks like another wierd and funny episode.

Thoughts:

Same reaction I got after seeing the preview for the next episode…

Judging from the fight, we can see that Kid is a step above Chrona and Ragnarok, so we can safely say that Kid is a few steps ahead of Maka and Soul. That is if he doesn’t let his obsessions get in his way. Also we find out that Shinigami-sama is somehow unable to leave Shibusen (which is why he sends out Meisters to do his dirty work), and we may find out why pretty soon.

Also now that Medusa’s cover is blown, looks like she will start making her move pretty soon too. Although we will be seeing a break in the action next episode, we will be getting some good action soon after.

Episode 15, Death the Kid, along with Liz and Patty, travel to a village which had been attacked by a mysterious monster.

Summary:

They reach the village to find out from a surviving villager, that they have been attacked by a Black Dragon. After a bit of researching, Kid, Liz, and Patty row off to find this Black Dragon. They manage to find this boat and board it. After a bit of investigating, they find a room full of souls.

Liz gets separated from the group when she falls down a trap. With out Liz, Kid is unable to use only Patty as a weapon (it throws off his symmetry), and they can’t do anything but run.

Meanwhile, Liz is slowly finding her way to the surface of the ship with the help of some friends. During this time, we find out a bit about the origins of Liz and Patty, and how they ended up with Kid.

When Liz finally makes it to the surface of the ship, she is met up with Kid and Patty. They are now ready to confront their enemy. All of a sudden, they’re enemy is sliced up in an instant. It was done by Chrona and Ragnarok. Ragnarok then absorbs all the souls that were hidden inside the ship, and gets stronger. He transforms and now has wings. Kid, Liz and Patty are in for a big fight.

Next episode will begin (and hopefully end) the fight against Chrona and Ragnarok. Looks like there will be an aerial battle too!

Thoughts:

Crazy Patty is crazy?!

Another good episode. We find out more about Liz and Patty and how they ended up with Kid. Not only is Patty hilarious, Liz is also funny with her cowardly antics. Kid is worthless when it comes to symmetry as usual, but they all go together so well.

Next episode looks like it will be all action. We’ve seen what Chrona and Ragnarok can do to Maka and Soul, lets see how well Kid and company does against Chrona and upgraded Ragnarok.

Episode 14, the Soul Eater gang face their toughest challenge yet. The Super Written Exam given by Dr. Stein.

Summary:

There are a few days left before the big exam, and everyone is doing their best to study… well sort of. Looks like Maka and Tsubaki are the only two who are taking the exam seriously. Soul is being distracted by Blair, Patty fell asleep, Liz is plucking her eye brows, Kid is drawing, and Black Star is exercising.

Black Star seems to have his own way of passing the exam. Instead of studying, he sneaks off into Dr. Stein’s laboratory, to take a sneak peak at the test and answers. He of course gets caught. They find him the next day at the beginning of class.

The exam starts, and Soul reveals that he has a few tricks up his sleeves. He has written a cheat sheet on the inside of all his clothes. He also gets caught and is forced to take the exam wearing nothing but his boxers. He has another chance to pass the exam… to cheat from his neighbors!

Only one problem, his neighbors are Death the Kid and Patty Thompson. Time is almost over on the exam time, and Kid is still trying to write his name down. Patty constructs a paper giraffe! Maybe some help from his pal Black Star? Nope… it is over for Soul.

The exam grades are posted up. Death the Kid and Black Star are at the bottom with zero points. Patty ended up with 2 points (which I think is amazing), Liz ended up with 28 points, Tsubaki with 67 points (I think), and up top at number 1, Maka with a perfect 100.

To congratulate Maka, her father asks Blair to buy her a present for him. Blair ended up spending the money on something for herself. She uses her magic to change the size of the item so that I would fit Maka. Maka doesn’t seem to like the present.

Ending Sequence:

New ending song! The song is Style, by Nishino Kana. The ending sequence shows Maka walking in casual clothing and eventually meets up with Soul. The ending reminds me of one of the ending sequence for Bleach.

Next episode will start getting serious again. Death the Kid looks like he was sent out on a mission, and ends up fighting with Chrona and Ragnarok.

How did you end up scoring 2 points with that giraffe, Patty?!

This was a very funny episode. I was laughing out loud at many parts of the episode. Especially any scenes with Patty in it. I still wonder how she scored 2 points if she turned her test into a paper giraffe…

Death the Kid vs Chrona and Ragnarok next episode! Can’t wait.

Episode 13 continues where the last episode left off, with Eruka going to the Witch Prison to free the man with the Demon Eye.

Summary:

Eruka sneaks into the prison in frog form, and sets the man with the Demon Eye free. They were later surrounded by prison guards as they were making their escape. Just when it looked like Mr. Demon Eye was killed by the guards, he reveals to us that he is immortal. They both meet up with Medusa, where she asks him to take care of some Shibusen students for her. He, now known as Free, gladly accepts.

Meanwhile elsewhere, Maka and Soul are with Dr. Stein, for some special training. The training is meant for them to strengthen their bond and match their wavelengths.

Later on, Maka and Soul, along with Black Star and Tsubaki, are sent out on a mission in London to harvest corrupted souls. Who shows up? Free shows up, and Black Star takes center stage. Black Star tells Tsubaki to go into Demon Blade mode, and that he will finish Free off within thirty seconds. Tsubaki transforms, and together they display some smooth moves and techniques. Just when Black Star was about to finish Free off, he had reached his limit. Total time: Less than 10 seconds.

Time for Soul and Maka. Soul manages to impale Free, but they soon found out that he regenerates right away, and that he is part of the Immortal Clan. Free then transforms into his werewolf form. Soul goes into Scythe mode, but something is wrong. Maka is unable to hold Soul. Her hands would burn when she tries to pick him up. This is because their wavelengths are mismatched, and this lead to some arguing amoungs themselves. They were promptly scolded by Tsubaki, and got their acts together.

After calming down for a bit, Maka and Soul are now better matched. Maka and Soul uses their Resonance of Soul and does Witchhunter. However, it seems that whenever Soul raises his resonance, he starts losing control of himself because of the Black Blood. Medusa also reveals that a Weapon with Black Blood would devour the soul of the Meister. Soul manages to regain control, and together with Maka, they were able to stop Free (with some help from Black Star of course).

At the very end of the episode, it showed Maka coughing up some blood… Black Blood.

Preview:

Next episode looks very funny. It looks like they have to take an written exam for Shibusen. In the preview, our heroes manage to look even more beat up from the exam than from fighting in all of the previous episodes.

Thoughts:

WTF are you doing Patty?!

To me, it looks like the story is moving very fast, and it seems like they’re rushing things, trying to fit as much as possible into the episode. It jumped right from the training with Dr. Stein, to the fight with Free in the next scene. Oh well, at least they’re not dragging episodes instead like Naruto and Bleach.

Next episode is going back from action, to comedy. Maka looks poised, Soul looks nervous, Black Star looks all beaten up, Tsubaki is obviously worried about him, Kid looks like his head exploded, Liz looks worried, and Patty… she made a giraffe!

Episode 12 brings some of the baddies together in a Witch Meeting. Medusa seems to have something up her sleeves.

Summary:

The episode begins with the conclusion of a Witch’s Meeting where we also see Angela accompanied by Mifune (last seen in episode 2), along with Medusa and her crew. After the meeting, Medusa was stopped by two other witches, Eruka and Mizune. They were questioning her motives, but were silenced when Medusa got annoyed.

Sometime later, Maka and Black Star meet up with Dr. Stein. He seems to have a training device for Black Star. It is a pot filled with special water. It is a liquid which absorbs your soul’s wavelength when you touch it. The perfect training device for Black Star in order to use Tsubaki’s Demon Blade mode.

Afterwards, Maka and Blair had a party planned for Black Star and Tsubaki to congratulate them on their first soul. The whole crew was there. However during the party, Maka sensed the souls of Witches nearby.

It was Medusa, being confronted by the same two witches we saw earlier. Medusa quickly disposed of Mizune, and scared off Eruka.

A few moments later, Maka and Dr. Stein come running because of what they sensed. Medusa said that is the reason why she was also there.

Later that night, Medusa catches up with Eruka and demanded that she does something for her, or else she will meet the same fate as Mizune. Medusa gives her a key, and tells Eruka to free a prisoner. Prisoner 13 in the Witch’s Jail, the man with the Devil’s Eye, the person who took out the eye of the head Witch, Madame Demona.

Preview:

Next episode we find our heroes fighting this man with the Devil’s Eye. It seems that Black Star trained enough to use Tsubaki’s Demon Blade mode, and it also looks like something has gone wrong with Soul.

Thoughts:

Blair finally gets some screen time!

This was a rather short and simple episode. We find out a little bit more about Medusa, and that she is not even trusted by her fellow witches. Next episode looks like it will be really good. We get to see Tsubaki’s Demon Blade mode! We still haven’t seen Blair in action since the first episode though.

The single for the first ending song for Soul Eater has been released. The song “I Wanna Be”, is sung by Stance Punks, a Japanese Punk Rock band. You may know them for their song “No Boy No Cry” as one of the opening songs for Naruto.

Episode 11 continues the fight between Tsubaki and Masamune from within the Demon Blade. With Tsubaki inside, Black Star is fighting his own battle outside waiting for Tsubaki’s return, and keep her safe from the villagers.

Summary:

The battle rages on between Tsubaki and her older brother, Masamune. Tsubaki is being pushed around and it is clear that Masamune is more powerful than Tsubaki. Despite being injured many times, Tsubaki fights on to stop her brother at all cost.

Remembering about her past with her brother, and remember about Black Star, Tsubaki is more determined then ever to stop her brother, and fights seriously.

Right as Tsubaki and Masamune makes their final attack and clashes, Tsubaki’s body gets absorbed by the Demon Blade. Black Star thinking that Tsubaki has lost, has become very sad, and begs for an encore hoping that she comes back.

However, Tsubaki did not lose, and was able to see her brother how she used to remember him, as a kind and gentle brother, one last time. As Black Star is poking at the Demon Blade trying to bring Tsubaki back, the blade transforms into Tsubaki. Black Star welcomes back Tsubaki with open arms, which she kindly accepts.

The two of them go back to Shinigami-sama and find that everyone was waiting for them. They were congratulated for obtaining their first soul. Black Star then reveals that Tsubaki has obtained a new weapon mode. She transforms into the Demon Blade, and everyone is in awe. But it looks like Black Star is not strong enough to hold the blade yet as his wavelength is sucked out from his body when he holds the blade.

Looks like Medusa is back next episode along with her other Witch friends, but it doesn’t seem like they are very friendly at all. Also looks like Black Star will be doing some special training with some jar. Also another character from the opening is revealed.

The Soul Eater Gals

Yep, my new favorite Meister/Weapon team is now Black Star and Tsubaki. Looks like Black Star has grown on me, and is less annoying now. And Tsubaki, well I’ve always though she was a good character. We get to see more of Medusa next week and find out what the Witches are up to. Also Black Star’s new training. Maybe we’ll see how powerful the Demon Blade mode is.

Episode 10 focuses mainly on Black Star and Tsubaki this time. We learn more about Black Star and about his Star Clan. We also learn a few things about Tsubaki.

Summary:

It begins with Tsubaki in Shinigami-sama’s room. He tells her that Masamune is loose, and that he may become a Demon God if he is not stopped. Tsubaki tells Shinigami-sama that she and Black Star will defeat him.

Black Star and Tsubaki end up at a small village looking for Masamune. They meet some of the villagers, but when they saw the star tatoo on Black Star’s arm, they became violent towards them. To avoid any confrontations, Black Star and Tsubaki leaves the town.

Black Star explains to Tsubaki why some people hate the symbol on his arm, and what the symbol represents. It represents his clan, the Star Clan. They were known as assassins who would do anything for money. They started harvesting human souls in order to obtain more power. Shibusen wiped out the entire clan leaving Black Star as the sole survivor. He was only an infant at that time, and was taken in by Shibusen.

At that moment, the Fey Blade Masamune enters the village. He approaches one of the villagers and offers him his power.

Black Star and Tsubaki senses Masamune’s presence and goes back to the village to confront him. Masamune has the power to dominate a human soul, control him, and in the end, devour the soul. Masamune uses the village boy to fight Black Star.

Masamune also has the power to control the shadow of the human he possesses. He manipulates the shadow (kind of like how Ragnarok uses blood to attack) to attack Black Star.

Black Star lures Masamune over to the statue in the middle of the village so he can set up an attack. Black Star and Tsubaki uses their Resonance of Souls and unleashes Shield Star. The move blocks Masamune’s attack, and suspends him in the air- Black Star’s domain. Black Star hits Masamune with his wavelength, and severs Masamune’s possession over the villager.

Tsubaki takes hold of the Fey Blade, and her soul enters the blade. Now Tsubaki must battle against Masamune by herself. Only Tsubaki can fight against Masamune- for he is her brother.

Preview:

Next episode will have the battle between Tsubaki and Masamune inside of the Fey Blade. More fighting, and more about Tsubaki’s past.

Thoughts:

More Tsubaki-chan coming up next episode!

This episode was very good. The fight scenes were cool and well animated. You can tell by the screenshots that they haven’t been slacking off on the animation quality. I think it is safe to say that Black Star and Tsubaki are my new favorite Meister/Weapon team (sorry Death the Kid). There is a lot of chemistry between Black Star and Tsubaki, and next episode will have even more Tsubaki action.

The single for the first opening song for Soul Eater has been released. The song “resonance”, is sung by T.M.Revolution. I haven’t heard from T.M.Revolution since Gundam SEED I think. Glad to see him back and making more music.
