I found the story very good. I am one of those players you mention who knows very little about the game's background. I have never played any of the old Warcraft games. You are right, It does give more meaning to these encounters you find in the game. I had absolutely no clue who that NPC that helped during the fight with Illidan was when we took him down to 30%.
